Sessions

We Offer:

  • 2 sessions a year – spring/fall.
  • Open to school aged (5 – 18) special needs children from the entire Foothills area.
  • An ‘orientation day’ for all volunteers at start of session.
  • 6 weeks of program for our riders.
  • Student coordinator works closely with schools on student selection.
  • Program runs Tuesdays daytime.
  • Individualized program goals for each rider.
  • Safety equipment for all riders includes approved helmets, boots and safety belts.
  • Our riders help to groom, tack and lead their horses.

Program Objectives:

  • Improve balance, muscle control, strength and coordination.
  • Improve self-esteem, provide opportunities for success.
  • Improve social skills, speech and language.
  • Challenge the rider as a 'whole' - their physical, mental, social and emotional self through interacting with the horse, volunteers and other riders.
  • Use functional riding skills to achieve specific therapeutic goals for each rider.
  • To provide an opportunity for each rider to have "FUN" and a positive equine experience.
